[SCD-G] TSC & SCD at the Olympic Spring Games

Hey guys, what’s up? It’s your friendly neighborhood Strong Bad with the first SCD tournament announcement in far too long. ;) I hope you all are ready for a great time!

So what will this tournament be about? Well, as the name suggests, this tournament will be kind of like the Sonic Olympics we (are supposed to) hold each summer, but with this competition, only two sites will be involved: The Sonic Center and Sonic Cage Dome. Now, other people are welcome to participate, but their placings will be disregarded in the final tally of points for each site. Continue reading to find out more.

How this will work
Members from each site will register (via this thread) using the registration form which will be further down this thread, after each event is described. There will be different events in different categories for this tournament. In each event, different placings will gain different point values for the player and the site he comes from. The points system will be posted after registration for online events ends and we figure out the number of participants.
There will be two types of events: online and offline.

Online:

Online events will be hosted by Sonic Cage Dome played on Sonic Cage Dome’s Kaillera server (IP: 69.90.34.38:27888) using Gens 2.1.4 in a double elimination bracket format. This format means that you will need to lose two times to be knocked out of the tournament. More information about specific events is below.
The programs and games you’ll need will be provided to you in a download file closer to the tournament date; check back later on that one.

Offline:

Offline events will be held over at TSC on their forums. If you don't already have an account, you'd best make one, cuz TSC is awesome. The offline events will range across Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles. More information about these events will be given closer to competition week.
The exact procedure and points system will be posted later; however, the general idea is that you will use Gens+ to record your inputs to the event and submit the .giz file. Registration is not required for offline events. Simply submit your .giz to the event (more information on this later), and you’ll be qualified.

Online Events & Rule List:

Sonic 2 with a surprise!

Date & Time: Friday, March 19th at 2:00 PM CST (check to see what time this is for you!)

This event will use the 2 Player Vs. mode of Sonic 2 using Kaillera in a tournament bracket format. Due to the whole “surprise” part, more information on this will need to hold off until the week of the competition.
Tournament structure will be double elimination bracket. Games will be played on Kaillera via the Sonic Cage Dome server (69.90.34.38:27888). All players will play their opponent (as decided by the bracket) on all of the stages. In the Finals matches of each Bracket (Winner’s and Loser’s Finals), the 4 stages are played in a best 2 out of 3 set. In Grand Finals (winners of Loser’s Finals and Winner’s Finals play each other) the player coming from Loser’s Bracket needs to win two sets, while the other only needs to win one.
The following hierarchy will be used to decide the winner:
Final Results
Most Stages Won
Most Categories Won

In the event of a tie (wtf if this happens…), the set will be replayed.

Rules:

If you are 15 minutes late to your match, you will be disqualified.
Autofire is not allowed.
Causing a desynchronization purposefully is not allowed. We’ll be able to tell.
In the case of a desynch, the game will pick up where it left off by restarting on the stage the desynch occurred with the other results carrying over.
Absolutely no johns.

Players from the same site will not have to play each other first round, unless one site has more players than the other. After that, it is inevitable that players from the same site will have to play each other.

There will be awards awarded to all who participate and 1st through 3rd will receive rings and special awards. 1st gets 100 rings, 2nd gets 50 rings, and 3rd gets 25 rings. Participants will get 5 rings.

Date & Time: Saturday, March 20th at 2:00 PM CST (check to see what time this is for you!)

The most highly praised Sonic game to date. This event will use the Competition mode of S3&K, using Kaillera in a tournament bracket format. Tournament structure will be double elimination bracket. Players will be put into groups of 4 (preferably 2 from TSC and 2 from SCD) and they will play a battle royale. The winner will move on, while the other person who was the last one standing will go into the loser’s bracket.
This event’s placings will not count toward the total, but there will be awards awarded to all who participate and 1st through 3rd will receive rings and special awards. 1st gets 100 rings, 2nd gets 50 rings, and 3rd gets 25 rings. Participants will get 10 rings.
